Common problems

What we hear from Alpharetta offices

The companies that call us are usually doing well. Their IT just hasn't kept pace with the business.

A client sent a security questionnaire

A bank, insurer or hospital wants to know about MFA, encryption and backup testing before they renew. Nobody on staff is sure what the honest answers are.

The engineers are doing IT on the side

Your developers or analysts can fix anything, so they end up resetting passwords and setting up laptops instead of doing the work clients pay for.

A move is coming and nothing is planned

The lease ends in six months. The new suite needs a circuit, cabling and a network closet, and the person who set up the old one left two years ago.

Support feels far away

Your provider is hard to reach and rarely visits. Small issues linger for days and the monthly invoice doesn't explain what you're paying for.

Services

Everything your office runs on, handled by one team

Most clients bundle all four into one agreement. You can also start with just one and add the rest later.

What Alpharetta's business mix means for your IT

Alpharetta's two main ZIP codes, 30005 and 30009, hold about 3,575 business establishments with paid staff, according to the Census Bureau's 2023 ZIP Code Business Patterns. That is a lot of companies for a city of roughly 67,000 residents. The reason is the GA-400 corridor. Since the 1990s, office parks along Windward Parkway, North Point Parkway, Mansell Road and Westside Parkway have drawn software, payments, insurance and health care companies, and the city still calls itself the Technology City of the South. A joint count by the city and Tech Alpharetta found 704 technology companies operating here at the end of 2018.

Who actually works here

The headline names are big, but most Alpharetta employers are not. About 1,030 establishments in those two ZIP codes have between 10 and 249 people. Professional, scientific and technical firms are the largest group, with roughly 840 offices: consultants, software shops, engineers, accountants and attorneys. Health care adds about 424 more, many of them medical and dental suites along North Point and Old Milton Parkway. Finance and insurance account for about 300, from independent wealth advisers to regional offices of national carriers. Only 51 sites in the two ZIP codes employ 250 or more.

That mix shapes what good IT looks like. A 25-person wealth management firm in Avalon holds client account data worth far more than its office furniture. A software company on Windward may have strong engineers who would still rather not run the help desk, patch laptops or chase the internet provider. A pediatric practice off Haynes Bridge Road needs its schedule, imaging and phones up by 7:30 every morning. Each one wants the same basics done well, and each has a different reason why.

Clients who ask hard questions

Many Alpharetta businesses sell to banks, insurers, hospitals and larger tech firms. Those customers send vendor security questionnaires before they sign, and again at renewal. They ask whether you enforce multifactor sign-in, encrypt laptops, review admin access and test your backups. A small firm that answers yes without proof is taking a risk. Part of our work is making those answers true and keeping the records that show it.

Office buildings, not just offices

A lot of local companies lease suites in multi-tenant buildings at Avalon, City Center, Windward or the North Point area. Lease terms end, teams grow, and companies move a mile down the road. Each move involves a new internet circuit, a new network closet, sometimes a landlord's shared Wi-Fi and a building management office with its own rules. Planning that early is the difference between a smooth Monday and a week of people working from their kitchens.

Milton and the north end

Milton, which shares the 30004 ZIP code with north Alpharetta, has a different feel: about 2,802 establishments, more home-based firms, builders and small shops in Crabapple, and fewer office towers. Owners there often run a company from a converted farmhouse or a home office. They still need managed laptops, secure email and a backup that works, just with fewer people in one room.

Infrastructure next door

Alpharetta also has several colocation and corporate data centers along Windward, North Point and Westside parkways. For a local business, that means a server or an offsite backup copy can sit in a professionally run facility a few miles away, instead of in a supply closet. Our own office is in Alpharetta, so a site visit is usually a short drive rather than a trip planned days ahead.

Getting started

How onboarding works

For most offices with 10 to 75 staff, the move to managed IT takes three to six weeks from first visit to steady state.

Review

An engineer visits, talks with the people who use the systems and runs a read-only check of devices, accounts, network and backups.

Proposal

You get a ranked list of findings, a fixed monthly price and a start date that avoids your busiest weeks.

Transition

We collect credentials and records from your current provider, install monitoring, fix urgent gaps and show staff how to reach the help desk.

Ongoing care

Support, patching and security checks every day, test restores on a schedule and a quarterly meeting on what's next.
